Lounge Review: The Calpe Lounge, Gibraltar International Airport

Posted by

Gibraltar airport is well-known among aviation fanatics — not only can members of the public walk across its runway, but it’s also one of the most difficult airports to land at.

On our last trip out of Gibraltar we stopped by the Calpe Lounge which has great views that are ideal for plane spotters — read on to find out our thoughts.

Seating

The lounge is U-shaped with sofas, arm chairs, coffee sets and some desks available for seating. The seats themselves are quite worn out and not the most comfortable. There is also a lack of working power outlets which was quite inconvenient.

What is nice about this lounge, however, is that there is an outdoor patio with seating looking directly out onto the runway and the Rock of Gibraltar.

Seating rating: 6/10

Food and Drink

The food in this lounge was not great. There was a choice of basic sandwiches, scones and some other snacks available but no real substantial meal on offer.

For drinks, while there was a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available, the drinks area was quite messy and very basic.

Food and drink rating: 4/10

Facilities

The facilities in the lounge were also quite basic with standard WiFi, toilets etc. Nothing too much to comment on here.

Facilities rating: 5/10

Ambiance

The view is what made the lounge memorable but other than this it is pretty unremarkable — it doesn’t feel super luxurious or stylish inside; it is a simple and basic space to wait for your flight.

Ambiance rating: 5/10

Service

As everything is self-serve there really isn’t any service but we will say that the receptionist and the staff replenishing the food and drink were quite cheerful and friendly.

Service rating: 6/10

Summary

Overall, the real stand-out feature of this lounge is its outdoor patio and view. Other than this, there isn’t really that much reason to visit the lounge, but it sure beats sitting at the gate.
