Lounge Review: BER Lounge Tempelhof, Berlin Brandenburg Airport, Germany

Posted by

Berlin Brandenburg Airport is an excellent hub for connecting Europe with the rest of the world — we often stop by here on connecting flights to and from Asia. On our last visit we dropped by the Tempelhof lounge which is open to qualifying passengers on various airlines including British Airways and Finnair — read on to find out our thoughts.

Seating

The lounge is surprisingly spacious with dining/bar style seating on one side and more traditional lounge chairs/sofas on the other. While there isn’t a huge amount of privacy once seated as it is an open plan lounge, there is a lot of room between seats so you don’t feel too cramped.

What we also loved about the seating was that power sockets were embedded in most chairs meaning that there is no shortage of plugs.

Seating rating: 7/10

Food and Drink

All food and drink is located in a self-serve buffet area.

For drinks there were well-stocked fridges with alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages available as well as a hot drinks area.

As we arrived later in the morning, the food on offer was transitioning from breakfast (with e.g. scrambled eggs, tomatoes etc.) towards lunch (e.g. mashed potatoes, meatballs etc.) so we were able to sample both types of meals.

On the whole the food tasted good (but nothing too special) and is very much German, with e.g. eggs in mustard sauce, pretzel bread etc. which is great if you want to sample some of the local cuisine.

Food and drink rating: 7/10

Facilities

For facilities, the lounge has WiFi, magazines and toilets etc. — nothing super special but it has all the basics covered. The flight information screens are also well displayed throughout the lounge which is useful as there are no announcements.

Facilities rating: 6/10

Ambiance

We quite enjoyed the atmosphere in the lounge given its fairly modern design, spaciousness and large windows with clear views out onto the tarmac. We also luckily arrived at a time when there weren’t too many guests in the lounge, so it felt quite peaceful and relaxing.

Ambiance rating: 7/10

Service

As with most business class lounges, everything was self-service — however, the staff were very efficient at keeping tables clean and replenishing the buffet. The service we received at the front desk, however, was a little frosty.

Service rating: 5/10

Summary

Overall, the Berlin Tempelhof lounge is a pleasant and fairly enjoyable lounge. While not super luxurious, it is a convenient space to grab a bite to eat, work or simply relax in while waiting for your flight.
